"Adam became subject to the soil from which he had been taken. Eve became subject to Adam, from whom she had been taken . . . The Fall had spawned the twin evils of women suffering in labor and of man's laboring in suffering. As a result of Satan's work, man was now master over woman, just as the mother-ground was now master over man.
